Maingau to deliver cheaper, cleaner energy to ONE MILLION customers with Kraken

  • Customers can heat their homes and charge their cars with the cheapest, cleanest energy available – fully automated by Kraken

  • The deal brings smart demand management to MAINGAU – integrating customers' home energy devices with the grid

  • The average EV driver can save hundreds of Euros a year compared to standard home charging

London/Obertshausen – 15th April 2025 – MAINGAU Energie and Kraken today announce an extension of their partnership to introduce Kraken’s flexible demand management system for energy customers across Germany.

Kraken – the world’s only proven, end-to-end operating system for energy – will cut bills for up to a million MAINGAU customers through AI.

Customers can effortlessly charge their cars and heat their homes at the cleanest, most affordable times – fully automated by Kraken to maximise savings and sustainability.

The move positions MAINGAU to capitalise on the growing market for EVs, residential batteries and heat pumps. Tens of millions of Germans are expected to invest in low-carbon tech by 2030 and will be able to benefit from flexibility services.

This extends the successful partnership between the two companies, which saw MAINGAU adopt Kraken’s best-in-class customer service platform last year

MAINGAU is adopting Kraken to map all customer processes, end-to-end – from connecting an EV, to optimising use of energy, through to customer service and billing. These services are seamlessly integrated into a single platform with a unified data model.

Kraken is already helping more than 250,000 European EV drivers save hundreds of Euros a year, compared to standard charging.

Kraken uses AI to optimise and automate the energy usage of home energy devices, in line with renewable generation, market prices and  grid status.

This not only saves customers money but lowers the cost of  balancing supply and demand, cutting costs across the entire energy system and reducing dependency on fossil-fuel backup generation.

Kraken is committed to accelerating the adoption of low-carbon technologies, recently helping to found the Mercury Consortium. The public-private initiative was set up with the goal of establishing a “Bluetooth for energy” – setting a common framework for the integration of low-carbon technology into the grid.

Richard Schmitz, CEO of MAINGAU, comments on the extended partnership: “After signing the contract for Kraken’s AI-powered digitalization platform in October 2024, we are now taking the next big step with the help of flexible demand management to set the course on the system side for the market requirements of tomorrow and to serve our electricity customers efficiently and make their everyday lives easier with our services.”

Devrim Celal, Chief Marketing and Flexibility Officer at Kraken, says: “We’re delighted to be deepening our strong partnership and rolling out flexible demand management for MAINGAU. Flexibility is a crucial building block of a modern, clean energy system. This allows us to make full use of cheap, clean energy, make better use of existing grid infrastructure and bring down bills for MAINGAU customers.”
