Tokyo Gas supplies gas and electricity to residential, commercial and industrial customers in the Greater Tokyo Area and beyond.

Tokyo Gas is the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier in Japan, and is the primary provider of LNG to the main cities of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Yamanashi, and Nagano. In addition to its gas business, Tokyo Gas operates a nationwide electricity retail business and has announced plans to invest $1.4bn in renewable energy to combat climate change.

About the partnership

To support the expansion of its electricity retail business, Tokyo Gas established TG Octopus Energy, a joint venture with UK-based Octopus Energy. Within six months of establishing this joint venture supported by the Kraken platform, TG Octopus Energy:

Launched a time-of-use tariff for electricity customers
Expanded its electricity retail operations nationwide, integrating with 10 transmission system operators
Completed the acquisition of approximately 20,000 customers and successfully migrated them onto the Kraken platform.

Kraken provides a shared digital foundation supporting electricity retail operations across the Tokyo Gas group.

I was able to do the first MVP product in just half a year after I started localization in April. I think six months was an amazing speed.
