Hundreds of pounds in energy savings for EDF customers unlocked by new flexibility partnership with Kraken

  • EDF customers can save hundreds of pounds a year by automatically charging cars and heating homes when energy prices are lowest, powered by Kraken

  • Over 7MW of customer devices are now connected to Kraken, just a few months into the gradual rollout – enough to power 10,000 homes

  • The partnership deepens EDF’s use of Kraken to deliver outstanding customer service and manage its storage and generation portfolio, and now also manage residential energy assets

London – 17th November 2025 – A new partnership between EDF and Kraken is set to save households millions of pounds by making energy use smarter and more flexible.

EDF’s 5 million customers will benefit from cheaper, cleaner energy for devices such as electric vehicles, solar panels, home batteries and heat pumps. Already more than 1,000 low-carbon devices are already connected, totalling 7MW of flexible capacity.

Using Kraken’s AI-powered Operating System, EDF can automatically shift the energy use of assets that customers have flexibly opted into, helping to cut household costs by using power when it’s cleanest and most affordable.

For the average EV driver, this flexibility can deliver hundreds of pounds in savings a year, compared with standard home charging, while also lowering emissions and supporting grid stability.

Kraken’s platform already manages more than 2GW of flexible power aggregated from  hundreds of thousands of consumer devices, creating the world’s largest “Virtual Power Plant” made up of residential assets. This lowers bills, boosts sustainability and helps to balance the wider energy system.

This new phase builds on EDF’s successful move to Kraken, which saw the company successfully migrate all 5.5m residential and 300k small business owners in just over one year. Since then, EDF has grown its customer base, improved its Trustpilot rating to 4.8, and boosted employee satisfaction.

Kraken now supports over 70 million customer accounts globally and partners with leading energy providers worldwide. Both EDF and Kraken are founding members of the Mercury Consortium, a global initiative to create a universal standard for smart energy – often referred to as the “Bluetooth for energy” – accelerating the rollout of low-carbon technologies.

Richard Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, says “This partnership with Kraken extends our mission into homes across the UK, combining EDF’s energy expertise with world-class technology to make smart, low-carbon living simpler and more affordable. Together, we’re turning flexibility into real savings and driving progress toward a net zero system.”

Devrim Celal, Kraken’s Chief Flexibility & Marketing Officer, says: “After years of successful partnership, we are happy to deepen our relationship by expanding Kraken's support within EDF's growing and exciting business. We are excited to be the foundation of this next phase of EDF's success.”

About EDF

EDF is helping Britain achieve Net Zero by leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission, electric future and tackling climate change. It is Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity and supplies millions of customers with electricity and gas.

It generates zero carbon electricity from five nuclear power stations and more than thirty onshore wind farms and two offshore wind farms. Since 2009, EDF has invested almost £8 billion in the nuclear fleet to improve reliability and extend station lifetimes. The five generating stations currently supply about 14% of the UK’s electricity demand.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. We also continue to support a  replica plant at Sizewell C in Suffolk, which is now majority owned by the UK government. Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C will provide low carbon electricity to meet 14% of UK demand and power around 12 million homes.

EDF is one of the UK’s largest investors in renewables, with more than 1.5GW of renewable generation in operation and over 14GW in construction, planning and development across a range of technologies including onshore and offshore wind, solar and battery storage. We are constructing our largest offshore wind farm in Britain – the 450 MW Neart na Gaoithe project in Scotland.

EDF is helping its customers, both in business and at home, take their first steps to sustainably powering their lives, whether it is buying an electric car, generating and storing electricity, selling energy back to the grid or installing solar panels or a heat pump. EDF is one of the largest suppliers to British business and a leading supplier of innovative energy solutions that are helping businesses become more energy independent. In addition, the company’s energy services business, Dalkia, is one of the largest technical service providers in the UK and Ireland.

EDF is part of EDF Group, the world’s biggest electricity generator. In the UK, the company employs around 14,000 people at locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
